Mentoring

Make progress with an expert beside you. A mentor is someone who has already been through the journey you're starting: the same country, level or field. You still apply yourself. Your mentor helps you plan your route, shortlist programmes and supervisors, and review your documents before they go out.

Mentoring suits every level, from Bachelor's to Postdoc.

Find a mentor

Browse mentors at applykite.com/search/mentors, or select Mentors in your dashboard menu.

Filter by subject, field, country, language, level and price, or show only mentors who offer a free intro call. Each profile shows the mentor's journey, what they help with, reviews, prices and availability.

Three ways to work with a mentor

Booking a call with a mentor

Intro call

A 15-minute video call to meet and see if the mentor is right for you. Many mentors offer it for free. Request a time, and the mentor accepts it. There's no commitment afterwards.

Hourly sessions

60-minute sessions, booked straight from the mentor's calendar with no waiting. Times are shown in your time zone.

  • Book at least 12 hours ahead.
  • The time is held for 30 minutes while you pay.
  • The price is the mentor's hourly rate, shown on their profile.

Packages

A fixed piece of work, like "PhD applications to the UK", split into milestones. You pay once at the start and ApplyKite holds the money. Your mentor is paid milestone by milestone, as the work is delivered.

  1. After you pay, the mentor confirms your plan, usually after your first session.
  2. When a milestone is delivered, you have 5 days to look at it. If it isn't right, choose Request revision. If there's a problem, choose Something's wrong.
  3. If everything is fine, you don't need to do anything: the milestone is approved after 5 days.

Joining a session

A video link and a calendar invite are sent when the session is booked. If not, your mentor sends the joining details before the session. Message your mentor any time from your mentoring dashboard.

Paying

  • Card: paid securely at checkout, in pounds (GBP). You get an invoice by email, and you can see your invoices and receipts from Billing in your mentoring dashboard.
  • From Iran: pay in rials by card-to-card transfer and upload your receipt. Your booking is confirmed once the payment is checked.

Before every paid booking you sign the Purchase Terms: tick the box and type your name. A signed copy is emailed to you after payment.

Cancellations, changes and refunds

  • Change a time: you can move an hourly session or intro call up to 2 hours before it starts. Please give your mentor as much notice as you can.
  • Cancelling: you have 14 days from your order to cancel. If you asked your mentor to start within those 14 days, the refund is reduced for what's already been delivered. A session that has already happened can't be cancelled.
  • Packages: a milestone that hasn't started can normally be refunded in full.
  • If your mentor doesn't attend, you can reschedule for free or get a refund.
  • Refunds go back to your original payment method, normally within 14 working days.

The full rules are in the Purchase Terms you sign. For anything else, email [email protected].

Reviews

After working with a mentor, you can leave one review (1 to 5 stars), and edit it later. You can post it as Anonymous. Reviews help other students choose.
